Beware, this article is dark and full of spoilers.

Soon rather than later, we will all be gifted the new season of Game of Thrones. It doesn’t matter if you’re an avid reader of the series, an binge-watcher, or both; it’s clear nobody knows what’s happening this season. With new storylines come a new opportunities for the women to dominate the show, a task George R.R. Martin knows how to do well. We all know the women in this series are everything in the world, but weak is not one of them.

The Blind Girl

If you expected Game of Thrones to be nice to one of its star players by returning a certain sense, you haven’t been paying enough attention. That’s not the way this magical world works. Arya Stark will spend the season sharpening her other senses, whether it’s with the Faceless Men or not is still up for discussion. Arya’s had an amazing journey over the course of the series, growing from innocent summer child to would-be assassin; giving new meaning to ‘a woman on a mission.’ It’s rumored she will continue her checking names off of her death list, and could be using a certain evil child king’s face.

The Oath of Bri

No doubt one of the fiercest characters on the show, Bri of Tarth will be back to finish out her mission of finding Sansa Stark. It shouldn’t be hard though since Sansa is free and loose in the North. In the trailer we see her stabbing her sword through a solider, but of which army we don’t know. In a short clip released by HBO, you see Sansa and Theon running through the winter woods, the same woods that seem to be in the background of this gif from the new trailer. Is it possible Bri finally recuses Sansa and fulfills part of Catelyn’s oath?

Sansa’s Great Escape

We were all prepared for Dark Sansa in season five, but Dan and Dave had a different journey for her. Now Sophie Turner, the dynamite redhead who plays the eldest living Stark, is on record saying Sansa “commands the respect that she deserves,” after fleeing Winterfell. Where could Sansa be? One theory is she will reunite with her baby brother Rickon at the Last Hearth and seek her vengeance out from there. As Winter Is Coming reports, Theon and Sansa will split shortly after leaving Winterfell. Maybe she’ll meet up with Bri to make badass feminist-duo; either way I’m reading to see Sansa take back everything that’s been taken from her. Sansa has been crucified from the end of season 1, arguably more than other character on the show. There have been so many critiques on the treatment of Sansa, it will be gratifying to see her spiking heads. Have you seen this trailer with a cameo from They Freys? In a previous article we mentioned the names Stannis recited into the fire during Season (), and Walder Frey is among them. Is it finally his time?

The Return of Yara

The Ironborn have been left out a lot compared to their role in the book, and it seems like the creators are finally coming back to it. As not to give any major spoilers away, one thing we can count on: Yara will be back to kick some ass. As the only open royal lesbian on the show, Yara represents a completely different type of woman, different from even Brienne. It’s unclear if we’ll see the events of the Ironborn unravel before us, or if we’ll come back with Theon’s perspective. WIth a new uncle in the mix and a possible overthrow in the making, Yara will quickly be regarded as one powerful player by season’s end. I truly love Yara because she makes no apologies for who she is, but shows true empathy and passion for her loved ones. I can’t wait see her reaction if Theon makes it back to the Iron Islands.

A Stark Story

Major hints have dropped about flashbacks concerning the one and only, the deceased damsel herself: Lyanna Stark. More specifically her involvement in the Tower of Joy, and the growing fan theory, R + L = J. (In case you don’t know, the fan theory is questions whether Lyanna was actually kidnapped, or actually taken to the Tower of Joy to protect herself and her unborn baby, Jon Snow). This is one of the most exciting storylines on the shows because everyone who was around during the Tower of Joy has died, expect Hollen Reed. Being that the show hasn’t cast that character for season 6, we can bet money this will be a flashback of Bran’s during his training as a seer.

Mind you, these are not the only female character who will be kicking ass this year. The Mother of Dragons herself is kidnapped with a dragon on the loose, I’m sure she’ll be riding home to Meerean in no time, with heads on a spike. Speaking of spikes, don’t forget Cersi is down to one royal child and a lifetime of humiliation to focus on: the Faith Militant should be very careful on who they’re messing with. Finally, The Red Woman will have the feat of a lifetime as she tries to bring Jon Snow back from the dead. More than ever the series is riding on the women of the show, and it’s a great time to be a fan.
